Establish a team to help manage the IT systems failure

It is important to ensure a coherent and consistent approach to any incident across your business. Establish an incident management (IM) team to help you deal with the IT systems failure.

Consider including members from legal, IT, compliance, human resources and public relations in your IM team, as well as representatives from affected business units.

Consider also including at least one senior employee or board director in the IM team. This will enable rapid decision-making and implementation and secure necessary resources and co-operation from the business.

If you already have an IM team in place, alert them immediately (subject to conflicts of interest). Remind the IM team of the importance of confidentiality, even within the business.

All actions to stop, mitigate, respond or otherwise deal with the IT systems failure should be approved by the IM team. Responsibility and reporting lines should be absolutely clear within the IM team.
